This project is visual reseach of contemplation on subjective and objective information. Going through the historical archive of North Korea from International Institute of Social History in Amsterdam, I had to confront with my own identity as a South Korea citizen. Encountering images and languages that are regarded as taboo in my own country, I am telling my personal story with collages of images and words how national identity affect the receiving the language and historical recordings.
In many ways colonialism, and nowadays the mainlywestern Anglocentric view of the world, has takenaway the chances of certain stories ever being told. Some of these stories — of oppression, resistance,
religion, culture, the environment, and maybe even
love — are housed in the International Institute of Social History(IISG) located in Amsterdam Oost.
